Do You Have a ‘Self-Care’ Kit? [ here I’m sharing mine… sort of medieval…]

Self – care… the time we spend alone to restore and find balance.  

Self-care could be seen as luxury… or as a necessity. And I think it’s both of those things. Having 1 hour alone could be something impossible to find. Once you make it happen, you will not want to give it up. 

Time of soul centered nourishment is especially important in times of greater stress …

Restore. Nourish. Find peace. 

So now I’m grateful for each moment when I can restore.  As an introvert you may find it essential to spend a lot of time alone. If in addition you are sensitive, you need to honor your inner need to control what is showing up in your immediate environment.

Above is a photo of my self care place today. 
I like to lie down on the floor and listen to relaxing music, medieval chants or guided meditations. A pure candle needs to be lit. Essential oils are… essential. Today my composition of self care elements is monastic and medieval, and I love everything about it. I also realized that every sense has been taken care of – that’s done intuitively… 

Today’s elements of my self care place: 

Rest on… Faux fur throw – and plenty of pillows. 

Listen…  Music: medieval chants that I found in The Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. But often it’s relaxing music by Deuter, or guided visualizations by Rick Jarrow – I love the music he used in his  Alchemy of Abundance. 

Sounds… If there is no music playing I’d occasionally play the meditation bowl. 

Wind chime – in good weather I would lie of the floor, open the door to the garden and listen to the wind chime… 

Natural stones...  I have just few: rose quartz, given to me by a friend of a friend, a rough diamond given to me by a native American in Sedona, and a green stone that probably helps with joy. 

Water…  me and my big jar of water show up everywhere together these days. We are never further than 15 feet apart from each other. I don’t find anything that makes me feel as good as iced mineral water with lemon mint and cucumber.  Yes, it beats chocolate. 

Is there wine on the picture? A rare treat and maybe just because sometimes I like to say out loud “Pinot Noir” (say it.. you see what I mean?) Anyway, once you know 10 words in French you will use any opportunity to use them. 

Fragrance… There is also a brass tray with essential oil stone burner. The ultrasonic oil diffusers are tempting, but I use one made of stone,  because aesthetically it matches my environment.  There is something about essential oils that is very calming and instantly relaxing. Restoring. They work on all levels – of body, mind and spirit. Books of Valerie Ann Worwood are  a great source of learning about them. Today I used rosemary.
